Lau Jaam

Lau Jaam became a student of Lam Sai Wing when he was still a teenager. He already had a small background in Choy Li Fut that he learned from his uncle Lau Bo Sing.

Jaam was around 16 years old when he came to HK and worked as a blacksmith helper for 50 cents a month. Lam Sai Wing's kwoon was near his working place so after work he would watch them practice.

Lam Sai Wing asked Lau Jaam why he was always watching them, so Lau Jaam said he was interested to learn.

Lam Sai Wing would charge 3 dollars per month, too much for Lau Jaam so Lam Sai Wing asked what we could do instead.

The answer was anything, I have 2 hands. Lam Sai Wing liked his honesty and took him as his student.

Lau Jaam mastered the whole system under Lam Sai Wing and later open his own Kwoon, the Hua Chiang Martial Arts Society.

For more than 40 years, Lau Jaam has been teaching kung fu in several places in China and Hongkong and has earned himself a high reputation within the Chinese kung fu community. He even was invited to play his own sifu Lam Sai Wing in the famous black and white Wong Fei Hung movies.

Until today, many masters in HK remember Lau Jaam as a great Hung Kuen master. He was also known as a very active fighter under Lam Sai Wing.

To honour this great master, we use the name Lau for our schools of Hung Boxing.
